Freedom Behind Bars

The linking thought between anorexia and prison.

It was one dominant thought pattern that I lived with for decades that linked a lived experience of anorexia nervosa and time in prison. Experiencing life behind bars was never on my bucket list. I was full of shame, guilt and hated myself. It was tough. But it also allowed for ‘unlearning’ and freedom from a lifetime of unhealthy thoughts of myself. Going through the court processes, I met a forensic psychologist who helped me unpack the low self-worth I lived with for most of my life. I wonder how many others live with similar thoughts that result in unhealthy behaviours that only cause a cycle of shame. Thank you to the 23rd International Mental Health Conference for recording my presentation in September 2022. You can watch by clicking the button below.
